Volunteer Opportunities at ROOP

Give your time to help disadvantaged children in Victoria become literate.

Read Aloud Volunteer

Be part of our Read Aloud Sessions Program and motivate children to develop a passion for reading. Our Reading volunteers work with children aged 2 to 6 years, their main duty is to read books to a one-on-one or larger group of children in hospitals, playgroups or child care centres in Victoria. Running learning activities, singing songs and playing games can be part of the reading aloud sessions to stimulate the reading skills in children.

  • Age: 18 +
  • Time commitment: regular commitment is preferred, 2 to 3 hours for at least 8 weeks
  • Runs only during Victoria school terms
  • Working with Children Check is required, if you don’t have one you can apply for free here http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/home/applications/
  • Every session you must wear your ROOP Volunteer’s T-shirt and carry your Working with Children Check.

Book Drive Volunteer

This role involves running book drives to sustain our pop-up-librarys program. Volunteers can use community organisations such schools or rotary clubs to collect pre-loved books.

When you sign up to this program you will receive a Book Driver Kit.

Book requirements:

  • Must be suitable for children 0-5 years old
  • Must be in reasonable condition, no torn, ripped or books that have been scribbled in
  • Must contain appropriate themes, no witches or monsters
  • Must be free of religious or war themes

Social Media Volunteer

Do you have excellent communication skills? Become a social media volunteer and help us increase our online community through Facebook and Instagram.

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be available 3-5 hours per week
  • You can work from home
